Director Natalie Labarre's unique experience designing engaging children's books as well as sophisticated, graphic 2D animation brought this work to the next level and expanded on potential for interactivity within the books.
Hey Baby, get your sh*t together- your parents have to get back to work! Did you know 1 in 4 American women return to work just two weeks after giving birth? So if parents can't care for their newborns, maybe there's a way for newborns to take care of themselves.
That's why we partnered with Mother LA and Paid Leave for All to create a deceptively dark series of children's books and animations that teach infants how to fend for themselves when their parents go back to work. We hope this striking satirical campaign emboldens us all to demand change by signing a petition to Congress: getyourshittogetherbaby.com

The look needed to solve for two opposing worlds: it should be convincing as a real baby book on the market, and, as a commission from Glamour, it needed to fit into a sophisticated, modern graphic ecosystem. The team balanced minimalist, line-less, block color styling synonymous with children's books with fresh graphic design and elevated palettes made up of muted and bold colors.
We knew from the start that we should treat the physical books like one-off, custom made props, so it made sense to seek help from a speciality prop fabrication house. Merritt Productions Inc owner and artisan John Merritt was incredibly collaborative and insightful throughout the entire process. And because of Natalie Labarre’s experience in book publication, the workflow between Merritt and Hornet was absolutely seamless.
These books seek to encourage Americans to turn their anger into action by signing the petition hosted on the website www.getyourshittogetherbaby.com to help Pass Paid Leave once and for all.
