The Hornet team collaborated with Sony Pictures Animation on the herculean feat of recreating their incredible Spider-Verse style for this Hyundai spot. From shooting 2D webs to zooming through CG city blocks, we had all hands on deck to create a theatrical quality story on a commercial timeline.
Sony's Spider-Verse is made up of a unique universe blend of 2D graphic comic effects with top notch CG animation. Though the Sony Imageworks team has the proprietary means to mesh 2D and CG in efficient ways, we analyzed the look frame by frame to break it down and precisely replicate it.
This project required our 2D and CG teams to coordinate, collaborate and integrate workflows in all-new ways. To create halftones, webbing, and depth of field, among other elements, we had to go shot by shot and find our own way of creating the unique Spider-Verse look even though we had a completely different pipeline.
